The Steelers would have competed for the best offense in the NFL in 2016, but for the suspension of Le'Veon Bell, who will be suspended for the first three games of the season. Martavis Bryant is also suspended for the entire 2016 season.
The Steelers are still going to be an explosive offense, but, oh, what could have been.
DeAngelo Williams was a top-5 back last season as a backup that didn't start in most games. He will have the reigns again, at least for the first three games. He's an interesting draft case. I still haven't figured out what his value truly is. Taking him in the 6th seems about right, maybe sooner if you have Bell and a troll in your league. But Williams still doesn't make the Steelers' core.
Ben Roethlisburger (QB) - 4200 yards, 30 TDs, 14 INTs.
Big Ben was ranked as my third QB before all of the mess with Bell and Bryant. Ben's never been an über-elite quarterback, either. He's going at pick 62. That's a little high for me since you can get better value later in the draft. Maybe if he had all of his weapons for the entire season, it would be a different story.
Le'Veon Bell (RB) - 1000 yards, 8 TDs, 40 catches, 450 yards, 2 TDs.
Bell would have been the 1st player on my draft board if he wasn't facing the suspension. Bell is a stud. And there's nothing more to say about it. Knowing where to draft him now is another story. It seems like getting him in the second is a steal, but if you do, try to get DeAngelo as well. Bell will be the best back in the NFL when he's back.
Antonio Brown (WR) - 125 catches, 1500 yards, 10 TDs.
Brown is the first pick in any fantasy draft this season. He's going to lead the league in catches, score double digit touchdowns, and be in the top five in yards. Draft Brown if you can. Period.
Markus Wheaton (WR) - 70 catches, 900 yards, 5 TDs.
Wheaton was supposed to the beneficiary of Bryant's suspension last season, and he fell short. That was before his mini-breakout last season. He's a late round flier. After round 8, there really isn't a bad pick.
Sleeper - Sammy Coates (WR).
After his performances in the preseason, he is becoming less trendy. He has been playing without the first team offense, but he's still a good late round flier.
Bust - DeAngelo Williams.
With Bell's suspension getting dropped to three games, Williams value drops a bit. He has no production value as long as Bell is healthy and playing. Beware if you draft him and need him as a starter when Bell returns.
The Steelers have the opportunity to be a top-level offense. Let's hope they don't have any more setbacks.
