Texas Senate Bill 1970 (SB 1970) and House Bill 1457 (HB 1457) were filed to legalize fantasy sports in Texas, including daily fantasy sports (DFS) such as DraftKings and Fanduel.

HB 1457 was considered in a public hearing on April 3, 2017, and is still in the House Committee on Licensing and Administrative Procedures. SB 1970 was filed and referred to the Senate Committee on State Affairs.

You can help. Go to the TX Fantasy Sports Alliance and contact your Senator and Representative. Believe it or not, your email, phone call, or letter will help tremendously. Tell your Senator and Representative to support these bills which put to rest the issue of whether fantasy sports, including daily fantasy sports, are legal in Texas.

If you will recall, last year, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an opinion that daily fantasy sports are likely illegal in Texas. Fanduel reached a settlement with the State of Texas to not offer paid DFS games in Texas. DraftKings is currently in litigation with the State to resolve the issue. If the legislature passes a bill to legalize DFS, and the Governor signs it, that would effectively end the litigation.
