Week 5 had some extremely high profile injuries, some of which ended some very big contributors seasons. This is where the Waiver Wire becomes crucial.
Scoring is ESPN 1/2 point PPR scoring. Owned Percentages using ESPN.
Jacoby Brissett IND 20 Week 5 points. Available in 84% of leagues. The 23 year old 2nd year man from NC State is quietly growing into quite the streaming option. Brissett has scored over 20 fantasy points in two of the last three weeks, only fault coming on a road trip to Seattle. He has properly utilized TY Hilton which no other QB besides Luck seems to be able to do. A road game to Tennessee (30th against QB's this season) on Monday Night has the makings for a decent stream or even tryout for your starting QB job in very deep leagues.
Elijah McGuire NYJ 4 Week 5 points. Available in 85% of leagues. The first of 3 rookie RB's we are going to focus on in an already extremely rich 2017 RB Class. As of the writing of this it looks as if Bilal Powell and possibly even Matt Forte may miss the Week 6 matchup with New England, leaving McGuire the sole member of the committee to get any carries against and extremely vulnerable Patriots defense. Also, don't judge McGuire by his Week 5 4-pointer, Cleveland has a surprisingly good run defense, an area New England has struggled.
Marlon Mack IND 15.8 Week 5 points. Available in 96% of leagues. After not getting any work over the past 2 weeks, Mack made the most of his second chance turning 9 carries into 91 yards and a TD. Mack looked far more explosive than his backfield mate Frank Gore, who in his defense, is the oldest active RB in the NFL. It is doubtful Mack will completely take over the veteran Gore but he should certainly cut into his work and if the Colts go into full tank mode, they may want to see just what they have for the future.
Matt Breida SF 8.6 Week 5 points. Available in 93% of leagues. If you were for some reason watching the Indy-San Fran game on Sunday you would have thought Breida was the starter and Carlos Hyde was the spell. Ladies and gentleman...Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers Head Coach showed he isn't loyal to names, only production, and Matt Breida was very productive. His 10 carries for 49 yards and 3 catches for 22 were enough to piece together a decent fantasy day and make him a Week 6 add.
Handcuffs/Fliers you should watch: Orleans Darkwa/Wayne Gallman NYG, Corey Clement PHI, Jalen Richard OAK
Nelson Agholor PHI 17.3 Week 5 points. Available in 80% of leagues AND Torrey Smith PHI 14.2 Week 5 points. Available in 75% of leagues. Although I think Agholor is where the priority should be, the Eagles offense is one that can produce multiple productive pass catchers. With defenses focusing on Zach Ertz and Alshon Jeffery in the pass game and the Eagles seemingly losing a Running Back every week one of these two should be productive week in and week out. Unfortunately, it may be a coin flip which one.
Marquise Goodwin SF 16.1 Week 5 points. Available in 97% of leagues. The former Olympian had a league high 11 targets on Sunday which produced a 5 catch 116 yard performance. This will absolutely not be the norm, but Goodwin's speed alone gives him the "one big play" potential that sometimes can pay off in a bye week flex. Plus a Week 6 game against a Josh Norman-less Redskin team may not be a bad matchup.
Roger Lewis NYG 9.4 Week 5 points. Available in 99% of leagues. A bad season got MUCH worse on Sunday for the Giants when four...yes four...wide receivers went down, the two top ones (Odell Beckham Jr and Brandon Marshall) for the season. This is merely a usage add as New York's awful offensive line doesn't allow a run game to be established, they will need to throw to someone and Lewis is the next man up.
Other deep league considerations: Any Cleveland Browns WR, JuJu Smith-Schuster PIT, Kamar Aiken IND, Markus Wheaton CHI
Tyler Kroft CIN 5.8 Week 5 points. Available in 90% of leagues. Although Kroft did not put up the points he did in Week 4, he still saw 5 targets and 4 catches. He has a bye week coming up but if you are in a deep league and have room, he may be worth the add. Cincinnati needs consistency right now, something Kroft has given them and Eifert certainly has not.
Nick O'Leary 7.9 Week 5 points. Available in 100% of leagues. Charles Clay got hurt. Tyrod Taylor throws to the Tight End. Even if that Tight End is a blocker like O'Leary.
Probably flukes but keep an eye out: George Kittle SF, Ed Dickson CAR, Darren Fells DET
Atlanta Bye on Week 5. Available in 87% of leagues. Rested coming of the bye week, playing at home against a struggling Miami team that is 30th against team defenses. That's about as "streamer" as it gets.
